Movana Chen is an established Hong Kong artist and curator at the YY9 Gallery in Happy Valley. Her work is a multi-disciplinary fusion of media transformation, fashion, performance installation and sculpture, which has been presented in diverse exhibitions and festivals in Hong Kong, London, Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai.

Movana will take you through her current exhibition ‘Travelling Into Your Bookshelf” , which is an extraordinary technique of using books collected from friends and donors, and then ‘knitted’ into artworks. She will also talk about the current art market and trends in Hong Kong, relating her own experiences and offering an overview of the vibrant and changing Hong Kong art scene.

About the Speaker
Movana Chen was born in Guangdong, China in 1975, lives and works in Hong Kong. Movana Chen studied fashion design at the London college of Fashion and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in Hong Kong. She also studied art curating at the Hong Kong Art School. Recent solo shows include Travelling into my bookshelf at Shinhwa Gallery (2009, Hong Kong) and Two-way Communication-beijing at Pekin Fine Arts (2008, Beijing). Major group exhibited at Gyeonggi MoMA (2009, Korea) and MoCA Shanghai Museum (2008, Shanghai). Her forthcoming bookshelf project will then travel to Milan, Seoul and Philadelphia.
