About this member

Type of activity:

Cargo airline business.

Background:
In 1970, Cargolux Airlines International is founded in Luxembourg. Its shareholders now consist of Luxair (52.1%), BCEE (13.1%), SNCI (12.8%), BIP (11.5%), Lux-Avantage (2.2%), Individual Shareholders (0.3%), and Luxembourg State (8.0%).
Description:
Cargolux, based in Luxembourg, is Europe’s largest all-cargo airline, operating a modern fleet of fourteen B747-400 freighters, plus one B747-400BCF. A unique feature of the fleet is the four independently adjustable air-conditioning zones which allow the transportation of various temperature-sensitive shipments, such as livestock and perishables, on the same flight. With a spacious nose cargo door, the Cargolux B747F is ideally suited for outsized cargo, such as pipelines or oil-drilling equipments, which do not fit through the side cargo door of older, converted B747 aircraft.

Cargolux is the launch customer of the new Boeing B747-8 freighter and has placed an order for 13 B747-8 freighter airplanes, 2 options and 10 purchase rights. The airplane represents higher fuel efficiency and noise reduction. It also provides larger cargo volume than the B747-400, with the same nose-door loading capability.
China Activity:

Following the signing of the route annex to an air service agreement between the governments of Luxembourg and China in February 1998, Cargolux Airlines International was granted permanent traffic and landing rights in Shanghai. Today, Cargolux operates six-weekly B747-400 services between Luxembourg and Pudong, Shanghai. In addition, Cargolux has a once-a-week service connecting Beijing, Xiamen and Luxembourg. Out of Hong Kong, there are 13 weekly frequencies linking the city and Luxembourg.
